Follow Your Own Star

As should be the intention of every creative, we strive to pave our own path in the world. In a unique and relevant way. And when it comes to expression and sharing your work on the internet, it’s about what works for you, not what everyone else is doing. It’s like the saying, “You wouldn’t jump off the cliff because someone else did it“, or something to that effect. When promoting your art or connecting with your community, it’s best to work with the applications and online networking tools that best fit you, your lifestyle, and your audience. When it comes to new media and internet applications, Chris Brogan says, Do What Works for you!

I agree and have told this to other artists over and over. Not everyone will like Facebook. I sure don’t. Not everyone has to use Myspace or LinkedIn or even blog for that matter! Follow your own star, give to your audience what they want, where it works for you. Don’t use something just because it’s the IN thing, or you want to keep ahead of the curve

That takes a heavy burden off our shoulders, doesn’t it?
